AFC Wimbledon Assistant Boss Terry Skiverton Diagnosed with Throat Cancer
AFC Wimbledon assistant manager Terry Skiverton has been diagnosed with throat cancer and will begin treatment in the coming weeks, the club has confirmed.
The 51-year-old has already been away from day-to-day duties since July, when he stepped back to recover from ankle surgery. What initially looked like a difficult but routine spell of rehabilitation has now taken on a far more serious dimension.
“Terry has been receiving valuable support from the League Managers Association (LMA) in recent months, and the club will continue to stand alongside him and his family throughout his treatment and recovery. Everyone at AFC Wimbledon sends Terry their heartfelt best wishes as he prepares for the next stage of his treatment,”
the statement read.
Skiverton arrived at Wimbledon in May 2022 as assistant to Johnnie Jackson, bringing with him a reputation for resilience and leadership built over years in the game. He quickly became a key figure in the dressing room and on the training ground.
His influence helped underpin one of the club’s most significant recent achievements, playing a central role as Wimbledon earned promotion to League One via the play-offs in 2025. That success, forged through pressure and adversity, now feels like a fitting snapshot of the character he will again have to draw on.
For now, the touchline will have to wait. The fight in front of him is a different one, and Wimbledon have made it clear he will not face it alone.
